This course is given in collaboration with the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness (ISC) led by Prof. Michael Porter of the Harvard Business school. The course is organized by the Center for Competitiveness of the University of Fribourg within the iimt MBA and EMBA Programme. This course can be booked separately from the MBA and EMBA programme.

The course explores the determinants of competitiveness and successful economic development viewed from a bottom-up, microeconomic perspective. The course analyses the determinants of a nation's or region's productivity such as the sophistication and productivity of firms, the vitality of clusters, and the quality of the business environment in which competition takes place. The course platform consists of case studies and other written materials plus an extensive library of video content that can be used in class including lectures by Prof. Porter for all sessions and videotapes of case protagonists including heads of state, senior ministers, governors, and others.

The course is taught under the responsibity of the Center for Competitiveness of the University of Fribourg. The teacher is Prof. Philippe Gugler, Director of this Center and affiliate member of the ISC of the Harvard Business School. The ultimate vision of the course is to make a meaningful impact on the economic competitiveness and prosperity of the regions and countries in which it is taught. Participants are private sector leader and government officials.The duration of the course is 2 1/2 days from Thursday morning to Saturday noon.

The course is taught in English. Each participant is registered to the Harvard electronic platform and gets a password to have access to the course material as well as to videos of Prof. Porter's lectures.
