Description

The economic situation of a region is developed in many ways through leading companies, mostly SMEs.  This leads to the development of local dominant economic sectors or industrial groups in individual regions like watches, optics, furniture, design, wellness, mechanical engineering and architecture.  This situation is on the one hand, positive (human capital, know-how), but on the other hand it involves the danger of the whole region being badly affected if there are fluctuations in specific demand.  In connection with this it is important to know what the chances and danger potentials are in order to be able to mobilize regional potentials that will alleviate shifts in the market.

Main objectives

The target is to create tools and measures that make it possible for the regions to generally increase flexibility in the economy. One main concern is to focus the attention of the driving forces in the economy and the actors on chance markets to prepare them for possible changes. Besides expert knowledge and market research, the joint work with potential control industries is in the absolute forefront. The joint work of the SMEs makes a learning process possible, which practically teaches configuration possibilities for the changing process. Political constitutional measures can be derived from the joint work. Measures for the educational sector can also be worked out in the framework.

Envisaged outcomes

An average of 15 potential leading companies will be evaluated in each region. In a series of workshops, strengths and development potentials as well as the market of the individual company will be analyzed and presented. Altogether there will be 120 SMEs involved.  Working together with research institutes (6-8), the potential of future markets in relevant sectors will be drafted with the help of existing studies from a survey of experts. New co-operations between companies, in - and outside the region, will be initiated. In addition, from this meta-level, action recommendations will be drafted for the participating companies after reflecting on the information from the individual firms.
